Yes, I celebrate 4th of July, even while Independence Day remains a mis-nomer for native African Americans...remember Crispus Attucks

Happy 4th of July!

Yes, I celebrate 4th of July, even while Independence Day remains a mis-nomer for native African Americans, for whom freedom would be deferred for another 87 years; until 1863 for most, and by 1865 for all.

We have resisted bondage and tyranny from the day our culture arrived on American soil. Men, like Crispus Attucks, are who I celebrate.

In fact, during my youth I attended P.S. 21, Crispus Attucks Elementary in Brooklyn, NY. The school was right across the street from Brevoort Projects, where we lived. We learned early, in this school, who this "first" American was.

"Crispus Attucks, a sailor of mixed African and Indigenous ancestry, died in Boston on March 5, 1770 after British soldiers fired two musket balls into his chest.1 ,,,Death instantly transformed Attucks from an anonymous sailor into a martyr for a burgeoning revolutionary cause..." - African Americans in the Revolutionary War

Crispus Attucks didn't die in battle, the reality is that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He wanted to live and be free, to sail the seas, live a full life, and die an old man. His death, at 47, was among the symbolic "last straws" for new Americans, both Eurocentric and Afrocentric, leading to the Revolutionary war. His fatality could easily have been cast aside as collateral damage, and lost to obscurity...but he became an enduring symbol, that freedom can never be denied forever, of any human being.

Here, in 2025, I inaugurate July 5th as Revival^ution Day, at Century 5-10-10-75, a day that I extend the invitation to a new season of activism, for those whom our history and our preparedness is important, in response to the trends and policies being enacted during the present administration.

Crispus Attucks School (P.S. 21), built in 1955, still stands, along with other edifices across the nation, named after Crispus Attucks. The best way for us to honor the sacrifices of the Ancestors, is by building again, both virtual and brick and mortar, and investing in a new cultural ascendancy.

We've done the marches, protests, boycotts, and legislative talkathons. Our DOLLAR, our intentional PREPAREDNESS, and our FAITH is our POWER.  These three are the sum of all fears to the Goliaths of our day, who want to turn back the clock on the inevitable cultural ascendancy of African Americans.

Beginning July 5th, quietly, peacefully aggressively become FORMIDABLE: Financially, Strategically (mindset), Tactically (products), Wholistically, Spiritually.

Happy 4th, and 5th! Let's pick up the baton from the Ancestors. BUILD. PREPARE. EARN. CHURN. PRAY. LOVE. HEAL. THRIVE...and never let the dust settle!

Rest in Heaven, Crispus Attucks and all of the martyrs and Revolutionary Black Heroes who are still on the right side of history. Our mission, should you decide to accept it, it to never let their stories be lost to obscurity.
